Hello Kenwood families!
A Big Thank You to the Kenwood Community!
We’d like to thank everyone who donated to Kenwood Elementary on Give to the Max Day.

Thank you for your generous support.
The Kenwood School Auction — our biggest fundraiser of the year will be happening Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Greek Orthodox Church. This adult-only event is an evening not to miss! The theme this year is "80's Prom Night". This event can't happen without the help of many parent volunteers. Information will be going home soon about how you can help. All the money raised from this event go to help support our great art residencies — like Taiko drumming, African Drumming, Roots Dance and more. Secure your babysitter now! Come and support your school and have a great time!
Family Activity Night was on Thursday, November 12th. This popular community building event is one of the most well attending events of the year and includes a free pasta dinner, an all-school barn dance and a Scholastic Book Fair. The PTA provides a delicious FREE dinner in the multi-purpose room donated by the local restaurant, The Lowry — more than 700 people attend. The annual Barn Dance is a culmination of the Roots Traditional Dance residency the PTA provides to all classes at Kenwood. In this residency, the students learn about traditional dance and music from cultures around the world. The artists, teach the students using live music and bring that music to the gym where your children can teach you the dances they have learned. The Barn Dance is always lively and children enjoy dancing together to the great live band. The Scholastic Book fair raises money for the media center and everyone is fed a delicious dinner. It was a great evening!
We are so lucky to be a part of a school community where over 350 parents volunteer every year — in a school of 461 students! Participating in school events such as Family Activity Night and the Kenwood Carnival has become much easier this year, thanks to the new on-line software program we are using called Jooners.com. When you receive an e-mail about a volunteer opportunity from firstname.lastname@example.org, you will be able to click on a link to a volunteer sign-up sheet via Jooners. There you can select a volunteer committment and receive a reminder e-mail two days before the event. If you haven't seen one of these e-mails yet, please contact Andrea Bubula at email@example.com to add your e-mail to our volunteer list. As, always, thank you for everything you do for our thriving Kenwood School community!
When your child will be absent from school for any reason (illness, vacation etc.), please call the Kenwood School attendance line at 612-668-2780. Even if you have sent a note to your child's teacher — you still need to call the attendance line, preferably by 8:00 a.m. Thank you.
