Is Your Student a Little Inventor?

The Minneapolis Inventors Fair will be held on the evening of Thursday, February 2nd at Sullivan Communication Center, 3100 E. 28th Street. We invite our students to participate! Applications were sent home on November 28th will all 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. Extra forms are available in the school office. Parent Sandra Clifford and Literacy Coach Megan Hardesty will meet with students on Wednesday mornings in December to help them refine their ideas. Sandra will also send program updates to the parents of students involved in the project. On Tuesday, January 10th, students should be prepared to show, explain and discuss their inventions. On that date, each student or team of students will need to bring to school the following:

1. A model or prototype of the invention

2. A triple fold board, made by the student, will the following information:

a. The name or title of the invention

b. A statement of its purpose

c. A diagram of the invention

d. A description of how the invention works

e. A statement of how the invention would improve life now or in the future

Used Book Sale

Mrs. Gregory's 3rd grade students will hold a Used Book Sale on Thursday, December 22nd. They are asking for donations of used books from Kenwood families. All proceeds from the sale will be given to the Media Center for the purchase of new books.

Mad Science

Mad Science returns to Kenwood after Winter Break! This session will focus on power sources, Newton''s three Laws of Motion, robots and the conversion of potential energy to kinetic energy. Classes will be from 2:15 to 3:15 on 5 Tuesdays, January 17th through February 14th.

Food Baskets

Kenwood School has a wonderful tradition of providing delicious holiday meals for others in our school community who are experiencing difficult times. In backpacks on December 5th, please look for a detailed flyer from Social Worker Michele Goddard, If you'd like to take part, simply fill out the tear-off portion of the flyer and return it to school by the stated date. We will need assistance in assembling the boxes on the morning of Thursday, December 22nd. If you can help, give Sue Payne a call at 668-2778. If your family would like to recieve a food box this year, please don't be shy about calling Michele at 668-2784 to request one. She can also share information about holiday resources, such as Toys For Tots.
