Our Regular Kindergarten tours for 2015-16 have ended for the year. Kindergarten Tours for the 2016-17 School year will start after Thanksgiving 2015. We look forward to showing you our terrific elementary school.
We will continue to give tours to those who are looking to immediately place your child in school for this current school year 2014-15 AND/OR for those who have just moved into the area and are looking for placement next year. School Choice Cards were due on February 28th, 2015.
Placement letters will be mailed home in early April. Kindergarten Registration (called Kindergarten Round Up) is on Thursday, April 30th.
On Wednesday, May 6th, 2015, Kenwood School will celebrate national Bike/Walk to School Day. Students are encouraged to wear a helmet and bring a lock for their bikes. Students can sign the mural by the flag pole on their way in and receive stickers that say"I walked" or "I biked". Bus riders can sign the mural too after participating in a quick activity on the playground when they get off the bus.
Our annual all-school Beatles Sing-a-long happened happening in the Kenwood gym on March 19th. Ms. Quehl, our music teacher, organized this with the help of the arts committee. Each grade learned a different Beatles song that they "lead" during the sing-a-long. All these great songs are accompanied by an awesome Kenwood Parent/teacher band including guitars, saxaphone, bass, drums, harmonicas and keyboards. The Kenwood Staff usually gets up to do a song — this year it wasTwist & Shout! 4th Graders played ukeleles during a song and the fifth graders played guitars. Everyone enjoyed singing "Lucy & The Sky with Diamonds". And Kenwood 5th graders took the lead by being the MC's of the event. This popular event gets even better & better every year. It is a great example of the fun things we do at Kenwood.
Students at Kenwood School will be selling plants as a part of a PAY-IT-FORWARD campaign to raise funds for next year's trip to Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center. Extra proceeds will go to the Kenwood PTA. Plant Sale forms are available in the school office. The deadline to turn in your forms was Friday, March 23rd. Plants will be available for pick up on Friday, May 15th. Thank you for your support!
Family Volunteers are needed to help with the Kenwood School Garden this summer. If your family would like to take a shift of watering, weeding and harvesting, please contact Kenwood parents Angie Erdrich at firstname.lastname@example.org. Usually two families per week are needed to help out. Watering is welcome twice per day during the super hot weather. Donations are also needed for the garden: vegetables and herb seedling, decorative fencing, bags of organic soil or compost and items for climbing plants like shepard's poles would be great. Thank you for supporting our Kenwood Garden.
Kenwood Elementary Schools Kenwood Fever Silent & Live Auction was Saturday, February 28th at 6:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Greek Orthodox Church. This is an adults only event that raised money for the Kenwood PTA. This money is used to fund the artists residencies and other arts themed programming we offer at Kenwood School. Check out more about the auction by clicking on the "Auction" tab on the left. Our auction this year was extremely successful. We have exceeded our goal of $50,000! Thank you to the Kenwood School Community for your hard work and generosity!
The 4th & 5th Grade School Play this year was Shrek, The Musical (this is different than the movie). The play performances will be at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 4th & Thursday, February 5th. Thank you to directors Cindi Quehl & Kathleen Bloom for another marvelous production at Kenwood School. Thank you to all the 4th & 5th graders for their participation and to all the parent & staff volunteers for helping with this amazing performance.
When your child will be absent from school for any reason (illness, vacation etc.), please call the Kenwood School attendance line at 612-668-2780. Even if you have sent a note to your child's teacher — you still need to call the attendance line, preferably by 8:00 a.m. Thank you.
