Change for Change

In Honor of Dr. King’s Dream…

Each year, Kenwood Student Council organizes a charitable collection for local causes. The students have collected socks, mittens, hats, toiletries, canned goods. One year all the kids in the school paired up to make no sew blankets for the Children’s Hospital.

This year, due to Covid-19, there isn’t a Kenwood Student Council. But there is an incredibly caring Kenwood student (and family) community- so the tradition will continue.

In light of the events of 2020 and always mindful of Dr. King’s Dream, this year we will be organizing “Change for Change.” We are asking that Kenwood students share their change (pennies, dimes, quarters, dollars) with people re-entering our community. We will be donating to the local organization, Until We Are All Free.

Until We Are All Free (UWAAF) is a human rights organization that was founded by a former MPS student. UWAAF helps previously incarcerated citizens reenter and thrive in our community. You can read more about the organization at: or find them on Facebook.

There will be a collection jar in the atrium on supply pick up days. Students may donate in the jar or parents may mail any donations to the office at Kenwood. Please, consider asking your child to donate some of their own change to this cause. It is important for them to know they are helping people in our city build a better life. Our goal is to collect $250.00. This will purchase one “Welcome Home Basket.”
