From African drumming to Taiko drumming, traditional dance to modern dance, from Spotlights to Share Ins and sing-alongs to concerts, the arts are thriving at Kenwood Community School. Through generous funding from the Kenwood PTA as well as other grants and gifts, students at Kenwood have rich opportunities to participate in education in and through the arts. The arts are at the core of life at Kenwood School, supporting curriculum and providing students with dynamic experiences.
All students receive weekly instruction in art and music. In art classes, students produce stunning works of art in a variety of mediums that are beautifully displayed throughout the school. In music classes, students sing, dance and play a variety of musical instruments from piano in our beautiful piano lab to classroom sets of ukuleles and Orff instruments. In partnership with Twin Town Guitars, weekly band lessons are available after school to students in fourth and fifth grade.
In classrooms, teachers integrate the arts into their curriculum to enhance student understanding and students show what they know in a Share In performance. The arts residencies, partnering with classroom focuses, last anywhere from a week to several months.
